JEE Advanced 2025: Increased Number of Attempts and Updated Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit for Candidates
- The upper age limit requires that candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 2000.
- Age Relaxation: Candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PwD categories are granted a five-year relaxation, making those born on or after October 1, 1995 eligible.
JEE Main 2025 Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for JEE Advanced 2025, candidates must:
- Rank among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates in the BE/BTech paper (Paper I) of JEE Main 2025.
- Note: The actual number of eligible candidates may exceed 2.5 lakh due to ties in scores across various categories.
Reservation Quota
- GEN-EWS: 10%
- OBC-NCL: 27%
- SC: 15%
- ST: 7.5%
- OPEN (unreserved): 40.5%
- A 5% horizontal reservation is available for PwD candidates within each category.
Special Clause for OCI/PIO Candidates
As per the Supreme Court ruling on February 3, 2023, OCI/PIO cardholders who secured their card before March 4, 2021, will be considered Indian nationals for the purpose of seat allocation to IITs. However, they will not be eligible for any type of reservation (e.g., GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST) other than OPEN-PwD.
JEE Main 2025 Eligibility: Class 12 Criteria
- Candidates must have appeared for the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination for the first time in 2023, 2024, or 2025 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as mandatory subjects.
- Candidates who appeared in Class 12 for the first time in 2022 or earlier are not eligible, irrespective of the combination or number of subjects taken.
Exception: If the Class 12 results for the academic year 2021-22 were declared on or after September 21, 2022, candidates who appeared for their exam in 2022 are eligible, provided they meet other criteria.
Non-eligibility Clause: Candidates whose results were declared before September 21, 2022, but had withheld results for any reason will not qualify to appear for JEE Advanced 2025.
Prior Admission to IITs
Candidates who have:
- Already been admitted to an IIT under any program listed in JoSAA Business Rules 2024 or earlier, or
- Had their admission cancelled after joining an IIT,
are ineligible for JEE Advanced 2025.
Exceptions:
- Candidates admitted to preparatory courses in 2024 can still appear for JEE Advanced 2025.
- Candidates who were allotted a seat but did not report or withdrew before the last round, or had their seat cancelled before the final allotment, are also eligible.
